Hello, Younger Self

Hi, it’s nice to meet you.  I’m the 37-year-old version of you.
I wanted to visit so I could give you a heads up.

You are a magnificent girl.  It’s true what they say about you.  You are a light for others in this world.  You’ll forget that for a while, but then you’ll remember it and shine even more brightly.

You are loved.  Your husband – oh yeah, you’re getting married—will show you that all the time.

People will hurt you and you will hurt other people.  I don’t mean to minimize these events, but I need you to know, it’s all part of the process.  It will tear away tiny parts of you, but these parts will come back and rearrange themselves into a confident, more thoughtful human being.

Taking pictures of yourself mooning people isn’t as funny as you think it is.  Well, it’s a little funny, but you’re just going to have to burn all those before your kids find them.  Oh yeah, you’re having kids.

Pretty soon you’re going to feel like a person who wants to kick down doors and punch people in the face a lot.  Don’t do that.  You can wield your strength in the form of words.

Most importantly, you are worthy of joy.
